If we talk about tourists in the Big Apple, it is common to go to the outlets in New Jersey and Woodbury. But I have written here on the blog about discount stores and outlets in Manhattan and other boroughs too. If you see the menu “shopping”, you will find several posts. Particularly, I think the city is very well served in this regard and you can find great deals. And to increase the options of discount stores in New York, today I want to speak about two chains that are not very famous / known among tourists.
I’ve be living here in New York for almost three years – more precisely in the Upper East Side, which has a Bolton’s location. In almost three years passing in front of the store, I never cared about the place. I think I was there once, took a quick look and did not pay much attention. Until my mother came to visit me, and then we passed in front of the store and she wanted to get in. It was still summer and she bought great dresses and blouses for $ 15 – $ 20 each. Owned by the same more-for-less chain store empire as Strawberry and Pay Half, the selection includes pieces from brands such as Calvin Klein, Philosophy, Michael Kors and even Tommy Hilfiger. Obviously, the availability changes with the season and in July we saw many dresses, summer blouses and skirts, now in Fall/Winter the shop becomes a great destination for winter shopping. You can find a lot of classical, basic and versatile clothing. Of course, the products will not always be the same because discount stores are like that, they change almost every week. But to give you an idea, I saw coats from Calvin Klein and Michael Kors from $120, Nine West handbags for $20, Calvin Klein dresses for $40, skirts $20, Tommy Hilfiger dress for 40, Calvin Klein blouses and shirts from $ 20 and Calvin Klein and Michael Kors trench coat from $80. Always look for the Bolton’s label for the final price – as the store keeps in many items the original label and price, which is great to get an idea of the savings.

I also never paid much attention to Fox’s. I passed several times in front of the store – but let’s say that the windows were not the most attractive. Then, a friend said that it was also a discount store and that she had made great shopping there. Then I checked closely. The store is set as a Off Price Designer store and has only one location in Manhattan. The store has 5 floors and I would say that Fox’s has a very different style from Bolton’s. It is great to find more different and stylish pieces, you know? And there is a lot of cool brands. I saw Zac Posen, DVF, Free People, Michael Kors and BCBG. There is an interesting selection of cashmeres (from $80) and many, many coats from all styles. It has several party dresses, blouses, skirts, classic dresses, pants … and also a selection of accessories. To give you idea, I saw Valentino handbag for $200. There is even a shoe section. The prices here are a little higher than Bolton’s, but as I mentioned, it is a store with a differentiated footprint. A friend bought a super beautiful jacket for $40 and I bought a super stylish blouse for $50.
