Studying makeup in New York City: Chic Studios

Some weekes ago, I asked for suggestions for blog posts there on my Stories (@laura_peruchi) and a follower suggested that I talk about makeup schools in New York besides the Make Up For Ever Academy. I’ve already written about Make Up For Ever Academy here on the blog – on this link, you can see all related content. But, this is not the only place to study makeup in the city! I researched the subject and I found some very interesting schools. One of them is Chic Studios. I was there personally checking the place up close and chatting more with the staff and I loved it! So I decided to write about school.

Chic Studios is a makeup school licensed by the New York State Department of Education and has been on the market for 9 years. In addition to the location in New York, Chic Studios has locations in Los Angeles, California, and Denver, Colorado. The team in New York has 7 professors – all with at least 10 years of experience in the beauty industry and still working in the field. The school is not huge, but its structure meets the needs. There are two classrooms, an office, a lunchroom and also an extra room that can be reserved for graduate students to make appointments with customers. And this at no cost. I thought it was so cool!

Chic has 10 more than 10 courses. The highlights are the Master Makeup Artistry Makeup and the Professional Makeup.

Professional Makeup (4 weeks) – History of Makeup Artistry- who, what & when; Hygiene & Prepping Techniques; Foundation Testing, Color Matching & Applications; Evening Makeup Applications & Perfecting Red Lips; Station Setup & Color Theory; False Lash Applications; Skin Philosophy, Skin Care Ingredients & Product Knowledge; Tools, Brushes & Materials (use and functions); Step by Step Applications & Day Makeup; Smoky Eyes, & Liquid Liner Techniques; Natural Makeup Applications; Shaping & Defining Brows; Bridal Makeup Applications; Mature & Male Makeup; Highlighting & Contouring Techniques;  Corrective Makeup Techniques; Ethnic Makeup Applications; Fashion & Runway Makeup looks, Decade/Period Makeup Looks & Looks for TV or Music Videos; Business, Branding, Marketing & Retail Training. Master Makeup Artistry (5 weeks) – All aspects of the 4-week Professional Course plus: Basic Hair Styling Workshop; Airbrush Makeup and Sunless Tanning Workshop. Price $4,940.00. check out more info.

In addition, both the Master and the Professional include makeup and brushes kit (whose value is $ 500 to $ 600), skincare kit, applications for brands Pro and photoshoot. The Master Makeup even includes Airbrush kit.

The other courses are: Beauty Makeup (2 weeks), Bridal + Beauty (8 Sundays), Basic Makeup (1 week),  Airbrush Makeup (2 days),  Hairstyling for Makeup (3 days), focused techniques (4 days), TV + Music Video (4 days), Fashion + Runway (4 days), Bridal Makeup + Business (1 week). Another thing that I think is super cool on Chic Studios is that they offer most courses in two options: during the day or at night (night courses are usually a week longer). I also loved that the most that some courses already include makeup kit and brushes – and there is a huge stock of products to be used there. Oh, and it’s worth remembering that Chic is super democratic in relation to brands: they have products that go from Nyx to Giorgio Armani. As I’ve been told, no one is 100% loyal to a brand and that’s why they cherish democracy in that regard, teaching students to make the most of it all.

I did not study at Chic, but all reviews on Google and Yelp are GREAT! 75% of Chic’s students are either from out of the country or out of the state of New York.

Important: the classes are all in ENGLISH.
