When we talk about shopping in New York, few people think about leaving Manhattan – unless it is to go to the Jersey Gardens or Woodbury outlets. It is true that the island has an amazing variety of stores: from the most luxurious to the famous fast fashion chains. But you can find very good places to shop outside Manhattan. This is the case of Queens. I have spoken briefly in this post here about some of the good places to shop in the region and one of them is undoubtedly Rego Center.
Rego Center is located about 20 minutes by subway from Times Square. Perhaps none of the shops are new to you. And then you ask me: what is the advantage? The advantage is to have multiple known stores in just one place. Easy enough, right? I’ve been in Rego Center a few times and like the organization, the mix of stores, the convenience. The last time, a few weeks ago, I took some pictures and take a closer look to a post here blog. There are more than ten chain stores – not counting the options on food. I separated some highlights of the place.
Yes! There is an Ulta Beauty in New York. I was also surprised when I found out and the only location is in Rego Center. Anyone who has traveled to other cities in the USA probably heard about it or know Ulta. It’s a very famous chain in the United States. I can define Ulta as a mix of Sephora, Harmon and Ricky’s. The store has a selection of famous brand fragrances, and other names in makeup like Urban Decay and Benefit. There are also more popular names like Nyx, Revlon, Maybelline and L’Oreal. For me, the highlight of Ulta is up to the store have some different brands like It Cosmetics, Soap & Glory, Bliss, and Juice Beauty – names that you do not find in other stores, for example. Another highlight is the hair department. In addition to the beauty salon inside the store, there are a variety of products such as brushes, dryers and styling tools. The treatment and styling products include brands like Paul Mitchell, Pureology, Sebastian, Biosilk, Kardashian Beauty, L’anza, Schwarzkopf, Redken and Wella. It is freaking out, seriously! Remember that Ulta also has its own brand, which includes makeup products and body care. This unit in Rego Center is huge and gives to spend hours in there. Drugstores cosmetics prices are not cheaper than Harmon – but if you’re in there it worths checking for other brands. To get an idea of prices and brands, just access the website.
I confess: I think Century 21 at Financial District in Manhattan is too big. The other location, next to Lincoln Center, it’s cool, but smaller. Century 21 at Rego Center is great. It is not crowded, is organized and quite large! Big enough and super complete. For those who do not know, Century 21 is a chain of discount stores. It’s like an outlet, but with several brands and prices are up to 70% cheaper than retail. This store at Rego Center is complete: fragrances, shoes, women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, accessories (handbags, watches, sunglasses) and even home items. Particularly, I think this a super organized shop and it has an incredible variety.
After Toy R Us closed its iconic store in Times Square – and ended up with the fun of a lot of people – one of the most frequently asked questions is: where to buy toys in New York? Well, I already wrote a post here on the blog with a list of toy stores in New York and it even talked about Toy R Us at Rego Center. It’s true: there is a location at Manhattan Mall, but it is small and with little variety. I had not entered this unit Rego Center until a few days ago and I confess: I was amazed with the size of the store. It is huge. In addition to Toy R Us, with several toys – Lego, Monster High and Barbie dolls and other varieties, educational toys, games – there is also a space of Baby R Us, focused on items for babies.
TJ Maxx is another well-known discount stores chain- and it also has great locations in Manhattan. Their prices are usually very attractive, with great discounts. This Rego Center store is also super great. You can find luggage, cosmetics – do want to buy Joico for a good price? TJ Maxx is the place! – Women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, accessories, bed, bath and table, crockery and decoration. The decor section is one of my favorites: I always find very nice things for very good prices! Exploring well the store, you will surely find much that pays off!
This is another department store that also worth the visit. Kohl’s has no stores in Manhattan and there’re more one criterion on which the Rego Center earn points. It’s a very strong network here in the United States and this unit is huge and very, very well organized. It has different brands, such as Lauren Conrad’s clothing, Juicy Couture and Sonoma, and other known as Levi’s. One of Kohl’s highlights, in my opinion, is the sneakers section, with brands such as Nike, New Balance and Asics, for prices starting at $ 40. All very organized! Kohl’s also has fragrances, cosmetics, bed and bath, and even some kitchen electronics. Pretty cool right!
What’s more? Rego Center also has stores like Bed Bath & Beyond, Marshall’s, Old Navy, Sears and Burlington. That is, several super-known names that probably are on your shopping list. I believe it is much more convenient to go to a place that has all the shops that stay walking a lot in Manhattan. Not to mention that Rego Center is a place with less tourists which can make a variety of products much better and much smaller lines.
Adress: 61-35 Junction Blvd – use R or M lines and get off 63 Dr station. When you get off, you will see one of the Rego Center buildings – there are two. First building has Bed Bath & Beyond, Marshall’s, Old Navy, Burlington and Sears stores and the other one has Century 21, Toy R US, Ulta Beauty, TJ Maxx and Kohl’s stores. You can check more information and the Store Directory on the website.
