I love the unusual way that I discover some places here in the city, totally by chance. I was writing a post about dessert with ice cream – which was published on the blog last week – and I was checking the origin of the churro ice cream sandwich when I found out it was a dessert from Playa Betty’s. Playa’s Betty’s opened recently and is the Upper West Side – it is a great tip for those who go to the Natural History Museum and want a good place to eat in the area. The place serves California-style Beach Food.
Indeed, the influence is Mexican. The tacos are the highlights, options with steak, fish, pork, chicken and even vegetarian. Each taco costs on average $ 4 to US $ 5. I was there at lunch with a friend and I ordered two: carne asada, with meat, and baja fish with a delicious fish. Both were very tasty – and I am not a huge fan of tacos. We took the opportunity and ordered a guacamole as appetizer ($ 12). The portion is huge and serves four people,. What I thought most interesting is that the guacamole comes with the toppings (cilantro, tomato, onion, seeds, pepper) into separate portions and you mix as you like. For those who want a more incremented course, there is the option of bows, with rice or quinoa, greens, beans and protein (fish, tofu cheese, chicken or beef) for $ 12. It is very well served! For dessert, we chose the famous churro ice cream sandwich and we shared ($ 8). The mixture of crunchy and warm churros with vanilla ice cream is indescribable. It’s delicious, irresistible! Bonus, I can not help but be charmed by the atmosphere of Playa Betty’s: the decor is a cuteness, you can see that every detail has been planned with care. Now, in summer, there are tables outside, and I think it helps to further increase the cool climate of the place. Remember, Playa Betty’s also has a selection of drinks like tequilas, beers and a variety of special margaritas.
