Observation deck, park and mall: new places in New York City

I’m always impressed with this city, I swear to you! New York really deserves that cliché phrase of the city that never sleeps and the city that never stops. And if what already exists here is not enough – amazing things to see and to do – next years promise many new features. The scripts will be increasingly filled. I have shown in a post here on the blog that the city will have a Ferris wheel like London Eye and a new outlet – just click here to check. But not only that … by 2020, New York will have a new observatory, a new park, and a new mall. Can I already feel anxious with so much? I can, so I’m here sharing the news with you!

Deciding between Empire State, Top of the Rock and One World Observatory will become a much more hard. That’s because last week it was announced the Observation Deck at Hudson Yards, which will be nothing less than the highest observation point in town. The deck will be 1,100 feet in the air and stretch more than 5,000 square feet, boasting spectacular 360-degree views of Manhattan and beyond. Located on the West Side at 10th Avenue at 34th, St, the complex Hudson Yards is the largest private real estate development in US history and the largest development in New York from the Rockefeller Center. It will feature five towers – among them the 30 tower, which is where the observatory will be installed. Some buildings of the complex will be ready next year, but the observatory is due to open in 2019. More information here.

If many people have are delighted with The High Line Park, I bet the Lowline The Park will also attract a lot of people because of its nothing obvious location. Located in the Lower East Side, the site is nothing more than an underground park. Visitors to the Lowline Lab will encounter wooden terraces, metal canopies and live plants all bathed in actual, subterranean sunlight. The light reaches the verdant underground space through an optical system invented by James Ramsey made with polycarbonate tubes outfitted with lenses and mirrors bring the sun’s rays from the roof to the lab. There is already a test space, to demonstrate how the vegetation of the park will be able to afford these conditions – more than 60 species of real plants are currently growing at the site, including pineapple, mint, strawberry and thyme. Although the park will comprise three whole underground city blocks, there is no artificial light. It is expected that The Lowline open in 2020, completely turning a subway terminal below Delancey Street that has not been used since 1948.

Ok,  2019 and 2020 look very far from you? Calm down. There is a final new place almost coming true. Located in the complex of One World Trade Center, Westfield Mall World Trade Center will transform the Downtown Manhattan area. With all the spaces already leased- 125 stores and restaurants – this mall will feature super famous brands like Michael Kors, Hugo Boss, John Varvatos and Turnbull & Asser. Even Eataly will have a second location there. Kiko, Victoria’s Secret, Aldo and Kate Spade are some of the other names confirmed. The coolest thing is that the mall should open in the first half of 206 – Eataly is already planning to open in April! More information here.
