7 Halloween events in New York City

Each place has its traditions and, in the United States, one of the strongest is Halloween. I always felt familiar with the date, since it is always in films and cartoons that were part of my childhood. Here in New York, Halloween is very strong – there are many festivals and events going on in town, not only on the weekend of October 31, but also a few days before. And there is a lot of them, for all the tastes and ages. Here is a list with some cool options for you that will be here during the day and want to enjoy a little of this atmosphere.

Halloween Parade – no doubt that this is one of the most classic programs of Halloween in New York City. The Village Haloween Parade takes place in the West Village on 31. Think about a lot of people, the most creative costumes possible, music and performance. I went last year and it was amazing! It was so funny too see the parade – which, by the way, never ends. The event starts at 7pm at 6 Av, the north side of Spring Street and go through 16th Street. We arrived about 40 minutes before starting to pick up a cool place and watched until shortly after 21h – and no, it was not over. Access is free – wear your comfortable shoes and be prepared for the weather, it can be very cold.

As a The Walking Dead fan, I could not forget to tell you about the The Zombie Mud Run,  a run with zombies, one of the most famous of the United States. Basically,  it consists of running with obstacles! Participants can register as humans or zombies. The Humans run with flags – representing vital organs: brains, heart and entrails. The zombies are located along the race track trying to eat your vital organs (steal your flags). If you finish the race with one or more of your flags, you survive. If the zombies capture all of your flags, you are infected with the virus and die – which means you don’t win the race. The The Zombie Mud Run takes place in East Windsor, New Jersey, day 31. Okay, you’re in the mood for a party? Then maybe Lavo can be your destination. One of the most cool and famous places in the city, Lavo promotes its Halloween party every year – and of course costume is a required item. The night is animated by DJ and starts at midnight. Tickets start at $ 60 and can be purchased here. The Lavo is at 39 E 58th St.

If you wanna leave Manhattan, maybe you should go Williamsburg, cool Brooklyn neighborhood, to check Warehouse of Horrors party. The event takes place in a warehouse- what would be better for a Halloween party? There will be two music rooms and frightening performances and DJs from Paris, Chicago, Los Angeles, Sydney and more. Another interesting party that happens in the city – but it takes place on Friday, October 3oth – is Haunted Mansion. The party will have vodka distribution between 10 and 11pm and DJs playing Hip Hop, Dance and Top 40. Obviously, costumes are also mandatory. The event takes place in Providence, which is very well located, near Central Park, in the central area of Manhattan. Tickets are not expensive – VIP access, for example, costs $ 25. Now, tips for Halloween with kids! Every weekend, in October, Bronx Zoo promotes Boo at the Zoo, with activities for families, including magic shows, costume parades, music, sculptures pumpkins and more. Even animals get in the atmosphere! More information here.

To finish, Brookfield Place Halloween Party, rolling in Brookfield Place, is also a great program to enjoy with kids. Music, storytelling, science lab, costume parade, face painting, trick or treat and magic shows. The event takes place on October 31th, in the afternoon, from noon to 3pm and is free.
