Have you noticed how the number of vegetarian or vegan people has grown in recent times? Other than that, there are also those who are intolerant to lactose or gluten, which also restricts food choices. Here in New York, if you follow a diet like this or have food allergies, you certainly will not have any problems. The number of restaurants in the city that caters to this public has grown more and more. I’m not vegetarian or vegan, I also don’t have food restrictions, but, I’ve said other times: I love the creativity of vegetarian / vegan cuisine and I’ve been in some places and I’ll recommend them in today’s post
by CHLOE – by CHLOE is a vegan restaurant led by award-winning chef Chloe Coscarelli, vegan for 10 years, and author of several books. Since it opened in 2015, it has been a sensation in the city, with constant queues and lots of good reviews. The restaurants are not huge and are not glamourous: you place your order and wait. Menu includes burgers, sandwiches and salads. I already tried the Classic burger – with tempeh, lentil and chia – and also the Guaca Burger – with quinoa, beans and guacamole. The burgers are delicious, with texture and seasoning so good it does not seem that it is not meat, you know? The price of the burgers is average of $ 8. Salads are also very tasty and very big. You should also try the Pesto Pasta, with avocado, delicious. The place also serves cookies, muffins and cupcakes.
Address: 185 Bleecker Street / 60 West 22nd Street / 240 Lafayette Street.
Le Botaniste – This restaurant, which is part of Le Pain Quotidien chain, is, in addition to vegan, gluten free. They offer veggie sushi (from $ 9), small dishes based on avocado, beet, hummus etc and also bowls, ($ 14) that mix vegetables with grains or pasta (gluten free). There are options, for example, with potatoe, mushrooms and vegetables, noodles with tofu and vegetables, soup, salad, etc. You can also choose the ingredients and do your own bowl. Also, this is a very nice detail of Le Botaniste: it’s a wine bar, that is, they serve wines! Delight, right?
Address: 833 Lexington Ave.
V Spot – I have been at this restaurant with Martha, from NY & About. Martha is vegan, so she knows a lot of restaurants in this segment here in the city. V Spot serves Latin food – with many Mexican options. I am passionate about Mexican cuisine, so I confess I was very curious. The location at St Marks Pl is quite spacious (St Marks PL). The menu is complete: it has empanadas, arepas, toast, quesadillas, tacos, burritos, salads, burgers, wraps and various appetizers. Prices start at $ 7 and do not exceed $ 14. When I was there with Martha, we ate tortillas with guacamole, empanadas and fried avocado (yes it’s strange, but it’s delicious). I also ordered a sangria. All very, very tasty and well prepared. Would go back there for sure!
Address: 12 St Marks Pl / 241 E 24th St / 156 5th Ave (Brooklyn).
Cocoa V – This place specializes in luxury artisanal vegan chocolates. Besides truffles ($ 3) with flavors such as dulce de leche, caramel, lavender and vanilla, there are also bars ($ 10) and pastries like cookies and cupcakes (from $ 3) and drinks such as coffee and hot chocolate, which is perfect, serious. It’s made with soy milk, but you can not tell the difference. I was there for a special tasting and tasted a lot of options and I can say that the products are not worse because are vegan. They are magnificent. Also, the chocolates options are great for gifting someone too!
Address: 174 Ninth Avenue.
