Here in New York, avocado is everywhere. And it dominates many dishes (not just Mexicans, okay?). The avocado toast, for example, is a classic of brunch. Avocado in the salad, avocado in the sandwich, avocado in the burger. Last year, the city got the first avocado-focused restaurant in Brooklyn, Avocaderia. And this year, Avocado Appetit opened its doors, becoming the first avocado-focused restaurant in Manhattan. As passionate about avocado, obviously, Thiago and I went to check out.
Avocado Appetit is a casual restaurant. The decor obviously is all avocado-inspired, and it’s obvious that everything is very Instagram friendly. You can place your order to take out or eat there. The staff is super friendly. We were there on a Sunday, around 3 pm, and the place was not busy. The capacity of the place is not very large, with room for approximately 20 people.
The menu is full of options. There are classic Avocado Toasts with several variations (prices from $10) sandwiches, served in bread such as ciabatta (starting at $ 11). There are also options of salads (starting at $ 11), pizzas (starting at $ 11), tacos (starting at $ 4) and burgers with fries (starting at $ 13). There are also appetizers like fries, guacamole & chips and spring rolls ($7). Among these options, there are several vegetarians ones. Click here and check out the menu.
One thing I suggest you do – if you are interested in eating there – is to check the restaurant profile on Instagram by clicking here. I was mouth watering with the photos – and I also got there knowing I would try a burger! My choice was the California Burger, with arugula, bacon, cheese, tomato, garlic mayo, and guacamole. It costs $15 and comes with fries or, for $2.25, you can change for avocado fries. I had previously tried Avocado fries at V Spot and they were simply fantastic! So we decided to try the ones from Avocado Apettit, but would not recommend it, it was not good. Keep the fries. Now, what about the burger? Sensational! I’m a burger fan, but it’s not easy either to love one. And Thiago and I love this one! Speaking of which, he chose Pho Panini, a sandwich in ciabatta bread (very large! It comes in two pieces!) with roast beef, guacamole and other ingredients. A super generous portion for $12. It was delicious too! Avocado Appetit also has beers ($5) and drinks ($10).
We loved the food and we definitely will come back! The place opens from Tuesday to Sunday.
