The view from Long Island City to Manhattan

I always say: If you wanna see Manhattan, you need to get out of Manhattan! For enjoying the beautiful skyline of the island, you have to be out of it, obviously. Either through a boat ride, either through another island, either through another neighborhood, there are several cool places to do this – and I’ve shown some in a post here on the blog. I have saved many photos that have never used the blog and was checking my files when I remembered these, taken in Long Island City. Clicks during the day were made in last year’s summer and night clicks were made shortly after last Christmas. Undoubtedly, you will realize that it is a place worth visiting, whatever the time.

Long Island City is a part of Queens – don’t confuse it with Long Island, which is another city. This place in question is Hunters Point South Park, a park on the edge of the East River, with green area and space to practice activities such as running and walking. In summer it is a good choice for a picnic. The view is super complete: you can see the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building. Roosevelt Island, Queensboro Bridge and even One World Trade Center, by far. That’s where is iconic Pepsi’s sign. The sunset there is also a sideshow – and, in autumn / winter, the sky gets amazing colors.

The neighborhood is very calm and there are also some bars and restaurants in the area. You can enjoy some time there. Some options: Ravel Rooftop, The Creek and the Cave and Blend on the Water. To get to the Hunters Point South Park is super easy: just use the 7 line (available at Times Square and Grand Central) and get off at Vernon Blvd – Jackson Av station. The park is about 10 minutes walk from the subway station.
